Araxie Altounian holds a Médaille d'or in piano performance from the Conservatoire Régional de Val Maubuée in France, and a Ph D in Musicology from the Université Saint-Esprit de Kaslik, Lebanon.
With over 35 years of teaching experience, she presently maintains a busy piano studio in Thornhill where she has been living since 1992, and is a past faculty member of Euromusic Centre for Music Studies in
Markham (1996 – 2013).
Araxie remains involved in her musical community. A past member of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association (1996- 2006), she has twice served as president of the North York-York Region Branch, as well as coordinator of the Toronto Zone competitions. Since 2003 she has been serving as Music Director of the Markham Music Festival.
Araxie has been active as a lecturer as well as a pianist, in Lebanon and in Canada. She has several published articles and a book to her credit, has collaborated with the Music Matters (RCM newsletter for teachers), The New York Concert Review, Keghart.com and is a frequent contributor to the TorontoHye (the Toronto Armenian monthly).
She has also given workshops for music teachers.
